Random Blog - Student Examples for Geometry in Real Life

My grade 6 students completed and submitted their Geometry in Real Life project this week; I was thrilled to see some of their connections to the topics our EDCP 553 class discussed last week (ie; looking at patterns in fruit, etc).

This was a guided inquiry project where they simply had to answer "How does Geometry relate to real life?" They could explore any area, such as nature, architecture, art, sports, etc. I thought it would be beneficial to share some of their work.

Many thanks to my students Darsh A. and Flora G. for allowing me to showcase their work!

  1. Wow, Christina! Your students have done an excellent job connecting geometry in nature and food. These videos clearly explain that Geometry plays an integral part in our daily lives, from nature to the food we eat. Even though the geometry is an essential part of the BC curriculum, I have observed many students struggle to develop a deep understanding of the basic geometric concepts. However, your students displayed their geometry knowledge in an interesting and engaging way. Well done!

  2. Amazing! Thank you for sharing, Christina. It's wonderful that your students got to explore these geometric ideas our daily lives. It's fascinating to see ideas like Fibonacci numbers and golden ratios mentioned in the video.
